used in conjunction with a variety of media:

to name a few. It can be rolled, sculpted,
stamped, sanded, filed, engraved, drilled and
pre-polished, all prior to firing. Once fired, it is
pure silver and should be treated like any

The Art Clay brand includes a broad range of
products to fit almost any need. For instance,
we offer Oil Paste for connecting post-fired
pieces, Overlay Paste which is formulated for
use on non-porous surfaces, Slow Dry for a
longer working time, Low Fire for use with
other materials that have low melting
temperatures, 22k Gold Clay, as well as
various other gold products. Plus, Silver Art
Clay has an 8-10% shrinkage rate, with Low
Fire Clay shrinking only 8-9%, which is the
lowest in the industry.
How is Art Clay Silver manufactured?
Art Clay is a recycled product manufactured
by Aida Chemical Industries in Japan. Aida
recycles and reclaims a variety of different
metals. The silver for Art Clay comes from
sources such as film stock and negatives.
What are the basic steps in working with
Art Clay Silver?
Form the malleable clay to the desired
shape. Dry the clay following one of the
recommended processes. Refine and detail
the green ware with files, sandpaper, or other
tools. Make sure the clay is completely dry, to
ensure a successful firing. Fire the dried
piece using a kiln, torch, or gas stove top.
Burnish the fired piece when it is cooled.

flexible and easy to carve, an ideal canvas for applying details and finishing touches prior to firing.
When fired in a kiln, the binder vaporizes, leaving a solid, pure bronze object that can be sawn,
shaped, drilled, sanded, patinaed or soldered using traditional jewelry tools and techniques. This
exciting medium offers a new world of possibilities for jewellery makers, artists and sculptors.
BRONZclay consists of 11% tin, 89% copper, water and non-toxic binding materials. The binding
materials vaporize completely during the kiln-firing process, leaving a solid bronze piece with a
density 90% that of cast bronze.
